Editor’s notes

There is an imperetive need for us to look inwards and assess our weaknesses, if we wish to survive as a nation.

Security and defence of India has always been a subject far from the interest of Indians, especialy the educated and well off busines community, the beuracracy and the politicians.

This needs to change and urgently.

“Proprietors matter, editors don’t”.

We regret the Easing out, the Chucking out, the Kicking out of MJ Akbar as the Chief Editor of the Asian Age. The Asian Age started publication about fifteen years back.

He is not the first Indian Editor to be eased out. There have been many instances earlier also. The recent tack in some of the articles must have upset the high and the mighty in the political circles.

As Kushwant Singh put it “The hard truth about Indian journalism is that proprietors matter, editors do not, money counts, talent does not”.

Kushwant the evergreen stalwart should know as he had himself been shunted out at one point of time, rather unceremoniously from the Illustrated Weekly of India.

MJ Akbar is known to be among the most talented of Editors. Under his belt he has many magazines and books to his credit.

With his talents he cannot be in a limbo for long.  You cannot keep a good man down for long.

We wish him the very best and look forward to seeing him in a new avatar very soon.
